52 Ancestors 2015: #30 John Benjamin Blyther/Blyather – Difficult to Research

Week 30 (July 23-29) – Challenging: It’s a good time to take a look at another
challenging-to-research ancestor.

John Benjamin Blyther/Blyather is my 5th great grandfather. He was born sometime around 1770 in New York, NY based on his Military records with the US Army and Maine Compiled Military Records.

The next time we see him is when he marries Sarah “Sally” Foss on October 10, 1786, in Machias, Washington County, Maine. She gives him six children, but the only one I have dates on is Benjamin T. Blyather (1818-1880). Thomas, William, Polly, Hannah and Sarah were likely born before Benjamin.

In the Narrative of the Town of Machias, he is listed as a resident somewhere between 1859-1904. I have it noted as a source and 1859, but I cannot access the document at the moment.

I know he died in Washington County, Maine – likely in Machias, but that is all the information I have on him.
